Dear Jackson Junior High School Families, Staff, and Students,

We have reached our first quarter progress report benchmark and progress reports are now posted in your Aeries accounts.  Please check your Aeries accounts for your students current academic status and help set an achievement goal with your student to have a strong finish for first quarter.  Most school work is being assigned in class with sufficient time for assignments to be completed to minimize homework.  In addition, students have tutorials (8th period) on B days to get help and complete work that they have not completed or missed in class.  There are many opportunities during the school day for students to complete and turn in their work.  We hope these opportunities will relieve some stress around homework in your households in the evenings.

Secondly, we are experiencing some negative behavior towards our campus that is impacting the learning environment of our school community.  Students are watching TikTok videos that show students in other schools defacing and vandalizing school property, particularly in the restrooms.  For the past week and a half, some students have been removing paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, and toilet paper dispensers off the restroom walls and leaving them on the floor.  This results in an inoperable (Out of Order) restroom until these items are replaced and in working order.  At this time, the lower campus breezeway restrooms are the only ones available for student use.  The breezeway has a security camera so we can monitor student activity in this area.  We have also enacted restroom checks every 15 minutes by our custodian and campus supervisor and have put strict restroom use policies in place during class times.

We want to correct this behavior and allow students to have full access to all student restrooms.  We are working with our WEB program and other student leaders to help us address these behaviors and empower students to respect their campus.  Please speak with your students about the importance of having a clean, working, respectful campus for all staff and students.  No students should condone or engage in this behavior so that we can maximize positive learning and student engagement.  We also need students to report immediately to administration if the restroom is defaced or inoperable so we can investigate and get restrooms back in working order as soon as possible.

Thank you for supporting our students and working with Jackson Junior High School to have a clean and respectful campus with a focus on student learning and engagement.
